Why do we seem to,

I am not quick to,
Anger or making speeches.
I am phlegmatic.

To turn away ire,
Of a friend, try a token,
Sent as a douceur.

An election year.
So many speeches, so full,
Of spurious claims.

Wellerism

I am creative.
But I cannot create a,
Single Wellerism.

Deke

A clever speaker,
Can deke the opposition.
Control the debate.

Fifth Column

To express dissent,
The act of a patriot.
Not a fifth column.

Immutable

Change is a constant.
This is immutable fact.
Be prepared for it.

Are we all alone?
Is there anyone out there in,

Fructify

My haiku efforts,
Are not always high quality.
Hope they fructify.

Riposte

Hostility may,
Come, but satisfaction lives,
In a strong riposte.

Collogue

Not every talk,
Is meant for everyone.
Sometimes must collogue.

Holus-Bolus

Classes start, car breaks.
New phone, job continues on.
Life holus-bolus.

Ulterior

An action might have,
An ulterior meaning.
Too much a cynic?

Didactic

My role at work is,
Often a didactic one.
Still try to have fun.

Vinaceous

I have a wardrobe,
Made up of blacks, blues, and grays.
More vinaceous hues?

King's Ransom

My education,
It can get expensive but,
Worth a king's ransom.

Omnium-gatherum

My film library,
An omnium-gatherum.
My tastes are varied.

Keelhaul

Sometimes you can feel,
Like keelhauling someone else.
Relax and forgive.

A conversation,
Light and frothy among friends.

Note: Okay, I know fiduciary doesn't mean the same thing as financial (at least I do after reading the definition on my calendar), but this came so quickly, misuse of the day's word and all, that I couldn't bear to not use it.

Political Show.
Candidates nothing more than
Preening popinjays.

Ab ovo

A new year begins.
Many things to do and explore.
Will start ab ovo.

Author's Note

As a daily writing exercise, I've decided to get back to doing this, but with an added wrinkle.  I got a Word-a-Day calendar for 2012, and I will use each day's word in that day's haiku.  For one thing, this gives me a starting place each day and makes it less likely I'll drop the ball again.  It also provides a challenge to keep the exercise interesting, particularly for days with off-beat words.
